My past work experiences include woollen, semi-worsted and worsted spinning production; tufted carpet manufacture; knitting manufacture; weaving manufacture and selling natural fibres, tops and yarns into various world markets.
OBJECTIVE: Reflected in her 'can-do" attitude, Paula is interested in working with large scale buyers of consumer clothing, textiles & hard goods to improve their manufacturing base in developing countries, in terms of production, quality and social compliance, particularly in times of extraordinary business growth.

RESUME: Paula has a well-regarded reputation of integrity and ability in working well with a wide range of people, to achieve lasting results. Her experience in product development and production spans more than 20 years. Starting in the 80's with a UK sole supplier to Marks & Spencer Plc, Paula move to Hong Kong in the mid 90's to work with the sportswear brand, Umbro. In 1998, she took up the post of General Manager for Li & Fung Trading, to oversee production, quality and social compliance of their 6,000 factories in over 80 countries, for a wide range of major global retailers, with a business volume in excess of a billion US Dollars.
In 2003, Paula moved to Australia to raise her young family, where inspired by BRAC-Aarong, the largest NGO in the world, based in Bangladesh, she established The Fair-trading Co to support their artisans, to make their fair trade products more accessible/affordable to consumers globally.
She has been a member of the Textile Institute, London since 1985, and holds a Diploma in Textile Technology, and an Associates Degree in Clothing Management from the Textile Institute. Paula also has a Post Graduate in Export Marketing, from Boston University, MA, USA.
As a member of the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ) since 2004 she currently sits on their Executive Committee and is also a founder and current Director of The Bangladesh Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BACCI).

Dr. Steve Spivak is an expert in the field of textiles and clothing fire and flammability; plus standardization principles, policy and practices. He has also consulted for over three decades in the areas of cleaning science and technology, cleaning, performance, "cleaning green" and standards for textile furnishings, carpet and rugs. He chaired the ISO's Consumer Policy Committee from 1991-1995.
He is Professor Emeritus and past Dept Chairman, Fire Protection Engineering, Univ. of Maryland, USA where he served thirty+ years as faculty, researcher and administrator. He is Principal of Stantex Consultants, a textile, standards and fire safety consultancy with offices in Virginia and in Puerto Rico, USA. Assignments included establishing the textile fiber and fabric import control laboratories in Saudi Arabia. Dr. Spivak is coauthor of two books on standards and standardization, the most recent "Standardization Essentials" published by Taylor and Francis. His PhD is in polymer & fibre science, the Univ. of Manchester, UK.

The frustration of sealing a garment for manufacture has increased in recent years as Fashion Designers have become more distanced from the pattern-cutters and garment-makers who actually construct their styles. Pattern amendments are filtered through other personnel and the actual pattern cutter is unable to discuss uncertainties directly with the designers.
