Midlands Section Spring 2011 Meeting

The West Midlands Section is being reformed and is delighted to invite and welcome you to the Spring 2011 meeting on Wednesday 6 July 3pm for 3.30pm at Aston Conference Centre, Aston University, Birmingham.
This meeting is open to and warmly welcomes any member of the Textile Institute. This will be an afternoon tea event where tea, coffee, orange juice, sandwiches and cakes will be served, buffet style. A PowerPoint presentation will help to illustrate the focus of the West Midlands section and we will discuss how we would like to move forward during this year. We will also publicly establish a committee of 7 members and Treasurer and, Secretary. In addition there will be a special speaker to christen the meeting in good-hearted TI tradition of spreading industry knowledge to all.
Schedule of the Meeting
We understand work commitments for business and for busy academics at this time of year, so we have planned a mid afternoon session, which is planned to refresh us all for some good networking, have a great meeting and allow us to make tracks at a reasonable time.
Members are invited to register and network from 3.00pm and we will start the meeting at 3.30pm. We will complete the meeting by 5pm and from 5pm - 5.30pm there will be an additional opportunity to network and catch up with familiar faces and make new friends and contacts. It should be noted that it will be useful for the new committee to liaise for a short meeting at 5.30pm to 6pm. A more detailed agenda will be available closer to the event itself.
Focus and Discussion
During the course of this year, sustainability, creativity and innovation in the sector are certainly going to be central themes of discussion, as is employability for students and enterprise. The local and global economy is a key focus for all and we look forward to a variety of contributions across technical, design, manufacturing, craft, educational and retailing backgrounds and others, in order to be inspired by and network in order to develop business, creativity and ideas for all. We will be seeking to further important connections between industry and education. An important feature of this section will be to develop a very active student and new graduate membership in order to provide support and new knowledge for those entering a new career and for students, new graduates and young professionals to also contribute with fresh ideas and outlooks as the industry changes.

It is important that all members will have an opportunity to vote for the committee and have had a fair perusal at offers, so please ensure that your details arrive no later than Wednesday 29 June so that we can circulate by email before the meeting.
Location and Parking
The Aston Conference Centre is very centrally located. It is a 10 minute walk from Birmingham New Street, Snow Hill and Moor St stations and car parking is available at £4.50.
The meeting is on a ground level and there is easy access for wheelchair users and also toilets.
We have collaborated with Aston to bring you what will be a generous and high quality afternoon tea and use of the facilities in a very central location with first class facilities at excellent value at just £12.50 inc. VAT. This includes an excellent selection of teas, coffee and orange juice will be served with a range of freshly made sandwiches and cakes straight from the kitchen.
Student members qualify for a generous, slightly over 20% discount at £9.95 inc. VAT.
We will not be able to give refunds in the event of no show at the meeting.

- Please RSVP back to the TI, by email, to indicate your interest and ability in attending, as soon as possible. This is very important for us as we wish to calculate expected numbers as accurately as possible. If you are seeking to be a new member please email@example.com as soon as possible.
- Payment must be received prior to the event for catering purposes by Wednesday 29 June . What happens next?
We will be forwarding you an agenda and directions in the week prior to the event and a summary of those members who have kindly volunteered for a committee role but who still require your vote in order to be considered.
